We are One

Meaning of Marriage

Marriage is between a man and woman, specifically, the social institution under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc. (Dictionary.com)  Here is another definition of marriage I found in a blog, “”True Meaning of Marriage” The true meaning of marriage is love. By love, I mean not just what we feel but what we do. Love just as a feeling is very flimsy, an up and down roller coaster. Love is an action! In order for it to become the ultimate force and for us to rediscover the true meaning of marriage, love has to be unconditional. You are not looking for acceptance or validation. You are giving of yourself to another not because of them, but because of your values. A death to ones self so that another may live and benefit from your sacrifice. This is not an easy road to walk. But it is the most rewarding road however. An old Buddhist saying goes like this, ‘I want peace.’ If you take your ego (I) and your desires (want) out of the equation, i.e., the self, you will have only peace left. The true meaning of marriage is expressing love unconditionally to another. It is an unstoppable force that can endure anything. How do you find it? Within yourself. You have to draw strength from you. Neither seeking validation nor acceptance, just seeking the opportunity to show love.” (TalkAboutMarriage.com)

Here is another quote which exposes the issue of marriage nicely, “The meaning of marriage can be looked at from a legal perspective. Legally, marriage is a binding contract between the two parties that joins together their possessions, income, and lives. Marriage is recognized by the state, and the dissolving of the contract can only happen through the legal process of divorce.

But, for most people, marriage has meaning beyond the legal sense. Marriage is also an agreement between the man and woman. Husband and wife take certain vows, to love one another, to cherish one another, and to stay together through sickness and health, for better and for worse. In most cases, this agreement includes sexual faithfulness, and a promise that each person will do what they can to make the other one happy. For some people, this agreement between man and woman takes the form of a covenant between not only the couple, but God as well. Thus, many marriages are performed within the rites of various churches and religious institutions.

The meaning of marriage should be looked at from a sociological perspective as well. A marriage is the conduit by which children are born; a marriage provides both a mother and a father for the children. The family unit, the relationship between parents and child, are all based on the marriage relationship.” (laboroflove.com)

Now let’s break this down and apply it to the current debate over same-sex marriage.  The first thing to notice is marriage is between a man and woman, not necessarily a male and female, although there are arguments about having children.  It is also monogamous, supporting, and legal.  Marriage is a social construct created by man for mankind.  Religious institutions use it to control their congregation and impose their ideology.  The Government further supports this manipulation by imposing financial benefits and legal constrictions on the nuptials.

There is a saying which applies to marriage nicely, ‘two heads are better than one’.  Partnership just makes sense in surviving and thriving so the question becomes how important is Love to the equation?  Having been married twice and divorced twice I would say it is imperative!   I will further posit that same sex marriages have one partner in the man role and one in the woman role by nature.  It is possible the roles flip from time to time and that even happens in hetero marriages.  Also the financial aspects of marriage are of great importance being the leading cause of divorce.  Marriage these days is often simply about security and insurance against loneliness. For the same-sex community it is about being accepted by society and feeling loved by their peers.  It is just another way to fit in and this goes for all marriages, gay or not!

Ideally I would say the “true meaning of marriage” is Love, a selfless unconditional love.  Let us pray this remains the primary reason to marry and to stay together.  We can also acknowledge the facts that marriage is about financial, physical, and emotional support between two individuals of consenting age (now 18).  Equality is about everyone, having the right to equal benefits, and opportunities.  The whole Same-Sex marriage movement could be reduced to the right to file taxes as married, share insurance, and make legal decisions with/for your spouse.  Take money out of society and this entire issue dissolves and marriage will return to its original purpose of sharing love, but this is another story, the many benefits of a moneyless gifting economy.

Love needs no legal document or government/religious approval.  Love is boundless until we put up walls.  We put them there so we can also take them down.  There is no greater and important principle to preserve in our world than Free Will.  It is our inalienable right to make our own decisions, to love whom we choose, and to experience the gifts this produces.  Do we really even need marriage at all?  Why put limits on who you Love, who you live with and who has your children (who’s children you have), especially if you are not going to honor your vows over your entire life?  Certain Truths hold themselves to be self-evident.  The only true relationship you have is with Divine Source (God).  This larger relationship expresses through the smaller ones with the people in your life, your relationship to mother earth, and to yourself.

The New Golden Age Is Awakening

The first step of transition to the new Golden Age is awakening.  It began many years ago and slowly more and more people are awakening to Oneness.  It is this awareness of Divine Oneness that is instrumental in this shift to a higher state of being.  Oneness is divine reality, it is a connection beyond the physical, and astral planes to a level of source.  This source can best be described as Love – Unconditional Love.

The next step is accepting this Love as not only our source but our very being!  No matter what we do, say, or feel Love remains our core.  The various forms it takes are unlimited, and this is what makes each person, place, and thing unique.  It is this individuality that gives richness to our Oneness.

When this singular concept is contemplated, digested, and integrated change cannot help but manifest.  We are all on this journey together from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius, just to give it a name.  Once you were born the path was laid out – destiny foretold!  There are still choices to be made and soul contracts to be fulfilled.  Life is a process, a process of learning, growing, and expanding.  Just look at the Universe itself!  It has been doing this since the Big Bang.

“Ages are believed by some astrologers to affect mankind while other astrologers believe the ages correlate to the rise and fall of mighty civilizations and cultural tendencies. (I believe it is both) Aquarius traditionally “rules” electricity, computers, flight, democracy, freedom, humanitarianism, idealists, modernization, astrology, nervous disorders, rebels and rebellion. Other keywords and ideas believed associated with Aquarius are nonconformity, philanthropy, veracity, perseverance, humanity and irresolution. The appearance or elevation in status of many of these Aquarian developments over the last few centuries is considered by many astrologers to indicate the proximity of the Aquarian age. There is no uniform agreement about the relationship of these recent Aquarian developments and the Age of Aquarius. Some astrologers believe that the influence of a New Age is experienced before it arrives because of a cuspal effect or Orb of Influence. Other astrologers believe the appearance of Aquarian developments indicate the actual arrival of the Age of Aquarius.” (Wikipedia, 2012)

Each Age lasts 2150 years and although humans are not in agreement as to exactly when Piscean age ends and the Aquarian age begins all one must do is look both at the world at large and deep within their own heart to know this shift is taking place right now.  2012 is instrumental in this shift because it is my belief and understanding that a tipping point is achieved this year.  With approximately 7 billion people on the earth change takes time and this shift goes in stages.

A Resource Based Economy/Love Based Society is central to the new Age of Aquarius, and I encourage you to read up on these topics and let go of what you think reality is all about.  The world you see around you is a function of your beliefs and your level of understanding.  I have written an eBook on this topic, “a Love Based Society”, and invite you to not only read my eBook but write your own.  Give us your view of the Aquarian Age!  What kind of world do you desire to live in?

The Meaning Of Life

What if you have thousands if not millions of purposes in life and not just one?  New books on the purpose of life or finding your true purpose in life come out all the time.   We all feel a need for life to have meaning!  What if that meaning is in the mix and simply by breathing and engaging in this realm your purpose is served?

Think about this for a minute.  It could be your purpose is to smile at that certain person at work at just the right time to give them hope when they are feeling down.  Or take your granddaughter to the zoo and indirectly inspire her to be a zoologist or simply to love her.  Your purpose could be simply to think positively and love each person you meet with an open heart and kind words.

Super Heroes are one of our favorite subjects for the movies, however we are each a super hero in ways that really matter to those we love and care about!  The movies are just there to inspire and entertain you.  We each have our gifts to offer the world and what I am offering here today is the realization that you cannot miss your purpose as long as you wake up in the morning and live your life.  The details take care of themselves.

Humanity has a higher purpose also that each of us is here to share.  Some people call them principles to live by, but I see them as Universal Purpose.  The first one is to “Be Here Now”.  This simply means to be awake and aware of as much as possible at all times.  The easiest way to know you are aware is to feel your breath as it moves in and out of your body.  This can be done as you go about your daily activities.  Simply feel your body, every cell is alive, pulsating with energy and carrying you to your destination – Feel It!

The next Universal Purpose is to “Love Unconditionally”.  I think this is self explanatory; however I will point out some key points here.  Love has no limits, and it is your very essence.  Love is who you are!  When you are embracing this gift you serve your purpose.  Love feels good always and all ways, so if you are feeling pain that is a sin or a sign you have missed the mark.  Loving is actually the easiest path or the path of least resistance, so go with the flow and stop trying so hard.  Remember Love is your nature, it is as easy as breathing and as close as your heart beat.

The third Universal Purpose is to “Tell the Truth – as you see it”.  We each come from a place of our personal understanding and knowledge.  It is important to always operate from this point of Truth.  Lying is a deliberate avoidance or aversion from this place of Truth and it harms you every time you do it.  A layer of separation or veil is created each time you lie and on the journey home you must clean through these layers to reach source.  All humans have a certain number of layers; it is simply an occupational hazard of being human.  We make mistakes, do not fret.  Instead focus on the Truth and be honest with yourself and others always.

We each have personal purposes as well as the Universal and these are discovered by listening closely to your heart and being observant of life and that which inspires you.  What brings you Joy?  I am not talking about having fun; I am talking about a deep feeling of blissful satisfaction and serenity.  The answer to every question is always right there and all you have to do is look, listen and feel.

Appearances Can Be Deceiving

Transition from male to female or vice versa is a drastic physical change and is often difficult not only for the person transitioning but for the entire family and if the person is famous then the entire community.  The further removed this person is the easier it is to accept, however when it is a person you admire or even idolize it becomes a whole different story.

Why are things so difficult you may ask?  Because each person has a concept of whom they think that person is.  You know your brother, right?  Or whatever role that person plays in your life, you think that is who this person is, but is that reality?  If your brother becomes your sister or your father becomes your second mom does this lessen the relationship?  How does this reflect on you?

The pride cometh before the fall!  Maybe the biggest issue is that your ego is bruised from the whole affair.  Someone in your family is different and this embarrasses you.  You did not even know this person whom you were so close to and oh my goodness this could rub off on me!  Does this mean I am queer too?  A member of your “team” has fallen in your eyes… or have they?

Maybe what is amiss is the mistaken notion that families know each other better than the rest of the world knows them.  Maybe everything happens for a reason and contains a gift for all involved.  Maybe each person need be on the lookout for gifts and when drastic events such as one family member transitioning occur this is the greatest gift of all.

The lessons are many and are different for each person involved, however a few themes are “we are not our bodies, we are Spiritual Beings having a human experience, do not judge a book by its cover, and Love has no limits.”  The human race is in a pivotal stage of evolution.  The physical body is being surpassed by the mental and Spirit.  It is a case of the jar no longer containing all the juice.  The body no longer defines who we are (if it ever did).

Appearances can be deceiving!  Just because someone looks big and strong, does this mean they are?  Or maybe they are beautiful to the eye; does this mean they have depth of character and compassion?  The saying, “do not judge a book by its cover” applies here.  However just because you have read the book (think you know your brother) does not mean that someone else could not interpret the story differently.

Love has no limits!  Unconditional Love is the only true Love!  This means that no matter what this person does that you still Love them and accept them for who they believe themselves to be!  It means you do not judge them for doing something you disagree with or goes against your moral values.  It does not mean that you must join them!  Pain comes from resistance and is often connected to ego; it is not Love!

So what is a person to do when it comes to family, friends or enemies?  The spiritual teachings tell us to Love thy neighbor as thyself.  See beyond the “cover” or physical body and perceive the soul, because when you see each person as a brilliant soul, child of God.  The world changes… it becomes Heaven.
