We are One

Identity Crisis

Here are two definitions of what a girly girl is which came up in a discussion recently.  We discovered that we each had a slightly different understanding of this term even though most of the group identified with being a girly girl or at least wanting to be this.  The question I posed was Why?

“Girly girl is a slang term for a girl or woman who chooses to dress and behave in an especially feminine style, such as wearing pink, using make-up, using perfume, dressing in skirts, dresses and blouses, and talking about relationships and other activities which are associated with the traditional gender role of a girl.” (Wikipedia.com 2014)

“Girly Girl: an extremely feminizing girl. A girly girl’s favorite color is usually pink, but also likes other pretty colors like purple, baby blue, and pastels. A girly girl: Cares a lot about how she looks and dresses; wears very feminine, cute, stylish, and sexy clothes like skirts, dresses, cute tops and stylish low-rise jeans; likes wearing high heels; wears a lot of pink; does her hair up nice; wears a lot of makeup; does her nails a lot; loves jewelry; usually not into sports; reads fashion magazines; makes herself as little like a guy as possible; usually into guys as more than just friends but doesn’t have to be into guys like that because sometimes a girly girl can be a femme or lipstick lesbian. Also a girly girl says “like”, “totally”, “Oh my gosh!”, “Oh my God”, and “whatever!” a lot.” (Urban Dictionary 2014, grammar corrected by author)

Ultimately it comes down to being Authentic.  Is this ‘Girly Girl’ your authentic self?  It is also interesting to note that many transwomen have been in relationships with them or want to be.  The question that nags at me is how does this relate to identity?  Does our partner really have to resonate with our own identity?  Isn’t this what these relationships really represent?  Most people choose a partner who embodies their own ideals!  People who they feel fill a void within themselves.

Perhaps this is what drives the Transgender identity.  Sometime a rock is a rock.  Is a rock ever really a tree?  The topic of gender identity can be a confusing one and I certainly do not claim to have it all figured out.  All I can do is work from my own feelings and understandings.  So I invite you to reflect on this topic, to question reality, and to search for your soul!

This quest has been a lifetime journey for me and I welcome the perspective of others who also consciously ask “who am I”?    If you identify as a ‘Girly Girl’ what does this mean to you and why do you identify this way?  However you identify… why have any identity at all?  Is it possible to not have an identity?  Maybe you could un-identify yourself with anything!  The question then moves to how does one relate to the world?

A Course In Miracles (ACIM) states all identity separates and this is insane!  The idea of being separate from anything else is exactly what the Course is undoing.  Nothing is separate from Source (God).  God is all there is, so since there is nothing else to be separate from this idea is false.  Perhaps then the only identity we need is “I am”.  The name of God is “I am that I am”.  When embraced with a comma we experience true reality… “I am that, I am”.

What Love Is

A Transgender lifetime is about balancing polarity, metaphysically speaking.  We don’t choose it per se, nature always balances its energy and thus it is our evolution that brings us here.  Too many gay male lifetimes leads me here.  This is not to say that being gay is wrong, just that life needs to be in balance.  Ultimately it is all about Love.  Love is the only ‘reality’ and who you are and who you love matters not… love is all that really matters.

So few actually understand what love is.  I ran across this quote recently which explains it nicely.  I offer this up for our mutual understanding!

“What is considered as love by the majority of people is not really true love at all but a mixture of the desire to love and the desire to be loved and acknowledged. There is often an over-emphasis to show and evoke sentiment in order to be emotionally comfortable in one’s own life.

This type of human love, which is often attaching and dependent, comes from a place of personal need and self-interest. Although illusion, this pseudo love has been a very necessary experiential phase in our human evolution while helping us to learn more about the self through dualistic relationships of all types.

We are now progressing beyond personality love and into an expansion of consciousness that realizes the Self as a vibrant and powerful center of fundamental, Universal Love and blessed with an expanded capacity to serve the human race.

Divine Love is not affectionate, emotional, or sentimental. (Bold emphasis mine.) This liberating intelligence knows no opposite nor does it come from a place of need. It is a neutralizing, cohesive force and its transforming power is boundless.
Divine Love wields the cohesive power that guides the universe, leading and sustaining everything into integration, unity and inclusiveness.

This love is pure reason. Its wisdom clarifies and impels motive. This brings magnetic attraction into play to produce cohesion, resulting in the unification of consciousness. (This is what I mean by being Transgender is a natural balancing.)

…We are here to serve as the potent collective expression of Divine Love in action.

It is important to understand that Divine Love is group love. This is love for the WHOLE, which is a completely different demonstration than the personality’s affection for friends, children, or a mate. (Italic emphasis mine)

You will know that the fire of true love is radiating inside you if your love for all people is greater than the love of yourself and of your individual relationships. You do not even think about personal happiness because your focus in life is upon goodwill to others.

You will know when you have reached this level of vibration when you can smile at every person that you confront in your life without passing any thought of judgment. Instead, you look into their eyes and only see the beauty that exists in their soul. The purity of this love gives constantly as its inherent nature, requiring nothing back in return.” (Children of the Sun)

My version of what Love is can be found in the eBook, Livin Large Chap. 12, which can be read online or downloaded at no charge.  Imperfection is the Human way so forgive your imperfect love, I do.  In fact, this is my Journey of Love… Forgiveness.

“Forgiveness is unknown in Heaven, where the need for it would be inconceivable. However, in this world, forgiveness is a necessary correction for all the mistakes that we have made. To offer forgiveness is the only way for us to have it, for it reflects the law of Heaven that giving and receiving are the same. Heaven is the natural state of all the Sons of God as He created them. Such is their reality forever. It has not changed because it has been forgotten.

Forgiveness is the means by which we will remember. Through forgiveness the thinking of the world is reversed. The forgiven world becomes the gate of Heaven, because by its mercy we can at last forgive ourselves. Holding no one prisoner to guilt, we become free. Acknowledging Christ in all our brothers, we recognize His Presence in ourselves. Forgetting all our misperceptions, and with nothing from the past to hold us back, we can remember God. Beyond this, learning cannot go. When we are ready, God Himself will take the final step in our return to Him.” (ACIM.org)

ACIM and Gary Renard

“Beware of the temptation to perceive yourself unfairly treated.  In this view, you seek to find an innocence that is not Theirs but yours alone, and at the cost of someone else’s guilt.  Can innocence be purchased by the giving of your guilt to someone else?” (Jesus)

There’s a capital T in Theirs because what they really are is innocent Spirit, beyond the veil.  But if you perceive yourself as unfairly treated, then you’re making everything real, which makes the entire ego thought system of guilt real in your mind.  The only way to find your innocence is to get that it’s not real and forgive others for what they have not done in reality. And since it never happened, you can then think of them as being innocent.  That’s the way to have it for yourself.  Never forget that.  It’s the only way out.  (Gary Renard, 2013 p.108)

If you perceive yourself as unfairly treated,

then you’re making everything real.

Just one of many insightful quotes from Gary Renard’s new book Love Has Forgotten No One.  Of the many ACIM teachers out there Gary is by far the easiest to understand and thus the most effective.  He makes the course enjoyable as well as comprehensible.  Of course to fully understand this book, reading the other two are required, but then no one said being an ACIM student was easy.  It takes at least a year to do the daily lessons and in reality is will take the rest of your life to fully grasp and apply the teachings.  This is only if you are dedicated also.  This does not give you an excuse to skip it altogether though.  As is stated in the beginning of the textbook, “”This is a course in miracles. It is a required course. Only the time you take it is voluntary. Free will does not mean that you can establish the curriculum. It means only that you can elect what you want to take at a given time. The course does not aim at teaching the meaning of love, for that is beyond what can be taught. It does aim, however, at removing the blocks to the awareness of love’s presence, which is your natural inheritance. The opposite of love is fear, but what is all-encompassing can have no opposite.” (A Course In Miracles, 1996, p.2)

If you are not already a student I recommend reading Gary’s three books first and then doing the course or perhaps if you are dedicated you could do Gary’s books while you do the workbook daily lessons.  Just be warned, your life will never be the same again!  This is a good thing.

Mindedness

Mindedness as described in A Course In Miracles contains valuable clues to our path and to deciphering which path to choose.  Navigating life is often complex and confusing, so let this be your guide.  The following is a simplified version from ACIM Ireland and the more complex but thorough explanation is from Kenneth Wapnick, PhD. whom I feel does a splendid job of laying it all out.  Blessings in your Journey of Love!

Knowledge : the activating agent of spirit, to which it is roughly equivalent, supplying its creative energy.

Perception: the agent of choice; we are free to believe that our minds can be separated or split off from the Mind of God (wrong-mindedness), or that they can be returned to it (right-mindedness);

The split mind; can be understood as having three parts: the wrong mind, the right mind, and the part of the mind (decision maker) that chooses between them; not to be confused with the brain, which is a physical organ and thus an aspect of our bodily self.

Wrong-mindedness ;

The part of our separated and split minds that contains the ego — the voice of sin, guilt, fear, and attack; we are repeatedly asked to choose right-mindedness instead of wrong-mindedness, which imprisons us still further in the world of separation.

Right-mindedness ;

The part of our separated minds that contains the Holy Spirit — the Voice of forgiveness and reason; we are repeatedly asked to choose it instead of wrong-mindedness, to follow the Holy Spirit’s guidance rather than the ego’s, and thus return to the One-mindedness of Christ.
One-mindedness ;

The Mind of God or Christ; the extension of God which is the unified Mind of the Sonship; transcending both right- and wrong-mindedness, it exists only at the level of knowledge and Heaven.”

(A Course in Miracles – Ireland, 2013)

Please read all the way through before zipping off to explore the many links included.  I suggest reading first then doing a thoughtful review.  If you have questions, I am happy to share my knowledge.

(adapted from the Glossary-Index for A Course in Miracles, Fourth Edition)

Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.

A Course in Miracles distinguishes two worlds: God and the ego, knowledge and perceptiontruth and illusion. Strictly speaking, every aspect of the post-separation world of perception reflects the ego. However, the Course further subdivides the world of perception into wrong- and right-mindedness. Within this framework the Course almost always uses the word “ego” to denote wrong-mindedness, while right-mindedness is the domain of the Holy Spirit, Who teaches forgiveness as the correction for the ego. Thus, we can speak of three thought systems:One-mindedness, which belongs to knowledge, and wrong- and right-mindedness which reflect the world of perception. Our discussion will follow this tripartite view of mind.

Mindedness

The accompanying chart summarizes the Course’s description of the mind. It should be examined in conjunction with the following references from the Course which deal with the relationship of spirit to mind, spirit to ego, and the three levels of mind:

T-1.V.5
T-3.IV.2-6
T-4.I.2-3
T-7.IX.1-4
W-pI.96.3-5
C-1

A Course in Miracles, therefore, is written on two levels, reflecting two basic divisions. The first level presents the difference between the One Mind and the separated mind, while the second contrasts wrong- and right-mindedness within the separated mind. On this first level, for example, the world and body are illusions made by the ego, and thus symbolize the separation. The second level relates to this world where we believe we are. Here, the world and the body are neutral and can serve one of two purposes. To the wrong-minded ego they are instruments to reinforce separation; to the right mind they are the Holy Spirit’s teaching devices through which we learn His lessons of forgiveness. On this level, illusions refer to the misperceptions of the ego; e.g., seeing attack instead of a call for love, sin instead of error.

Thus, the Course focuses on our thoughts, not their external manifestations which are really projections of these thoughts. As it says: “This is a course in cause and not effect” (T-21.VII.7:8). We are urged not to seek to change the world (effect), but to change our mind (cause) about the world (T-21.In.1:7). When lesson 193 states: “I will forgive, and this will disappear” (W-pI.193.13:3), what is meant is that our perception of the problem and any pain that comes to us from this perception disappear, not necessarily the physical expression of the problem. For example, if rain threatens proposed plans and brings upset or disappointment, we should not pray for sunshine, but rather for help in looking at the inclement weather as an opportunity we have chosen to learn a lesson in forgiveness the Holy Spirit can teach us. This is not to deny that the ego can make or affect a physical world. However, as this physical world is inherently illusory, a result of our thoughts, the Course’s emphasis is on correcting these mistaken or miscreative thoughts, which are always the true source of any problem. This correction then allows the Holy Spirit’s Love to direct our behavior in the world.

One-mindedness

The One-mindedness of Christ is the world of Heaven or knowledge: the pre-separation world of spiritlove, truth, eternity, infinity, and reality, where the oneness of God’s creation-the sum of all His Thoughts-is unbroken. It is the natural state of direct communication with God and His creation that existed before the mind of God’s Son thought of separation. In this state the perfect unity of the Trinity is maintained.

The Trinity consists of: 1) God, the Father; 2) His SonChrist, our true Self; and 3) the Holy Spirit, the Voice for God. Included in the Second Person of the Trinity are our creations, the extensions of our Self or spirit. The Second Person of the Trinity is not exclusively identified with Jesus, who is part of Christ, as we all are.

Wrong-mindedness

The ego consists of three fundamental concepts: sin: the belief that we have separated ourselves from God; guilt: the experience of having sinned, of having done something wrong which emanates from our belief that we have attacked God by usurping His role as First Cause, making ourselves our own first cause; and fear: the emotion that inevitably follows guilt, coming from our belief in sin and based on our thought that we deserve to be punished by the ego’s made-up god of vengeance.

To ensure its survival, the ego continually attracts guilt to itself, since guilt proves sin’s reality and it is sin that gave the ego birth. Once it has established guilt as real the ego teaches us never to approach or even look at it, for it says we would either be destroyed by an angry, vengeful god-a god that the ego made, in fact, to suit its purpose-intent on punishing us for our sin against him, or else annihilated in the oblivion of our own nothingness. This fear keeps the guilt and sin intact, for without seeing them as decisions of our minds we can never change our belief in them.

Left with the anxiety and terror brought on by the fear of God, our only recourse is to turn to the ego for help, since God has become our enemy. The ego’s plan of salvation from guilt has two parts: the first is denial, wherein we push our guilt out of awareness, hoping that by not seeing the problem it will not be there. Second, after the guilt is denied, we project it out from us onto another, magically hoping to be free from the guilt by unconsciously placing it outside ourselves.

Projection has two principal forms: special hate and special love relationships. In special hate relationships our self-hatred or guilt is transferred onto others, making them responsible for the misery we feel. Our anger or attackattempts to justify the projection, reinforcing others’ guilt for the sins we projected from ourselves. Special love relationships have the same goal of projecting guilt, though the form differs greatly. Our guilt teaches we are empty, unfulfilled, incomplete, and needful, all aspects of the scarcity principle. Believing this lack can never be corrected, we seek outside ourselves for those people who can complete us. Special love, thus, takes this form: I have certain special needs that God cannot meet, but you, a special person with special attributes, can meet them for me. When you do, I shall love you. If you do not, my love will turn to hate.

The ego’s world becomes divided into enemies (special hate) or savior-idols (special love), and the true Identity of Christ in others is obscured. Judgment, always based on the past rather than acceptance in the present, is the ego’s guiding principle. Through special relationships the ego sustains its existence by maintaining guilt, since using others to meet our needs constitutes an attack, and attack in any form reinforces guilt. This sets into motion the guilt-attack cycle, wherein the greater our guilt, the greater the need to project it by attacking others through special relationships, which merely adds to the guilt, increasing the need to project it.

The ego’s wrong-mindedness is a dream of separation, most clearly expressed in the physical world which was made as “an attack on God” (W-pII.3.2:1). The body’s existence is one of sicknesssuffering, and death, which witness to the seeming reality of the body as opposed to spirit, which can never suffer pain, or die. Crucifixion is the Course’s symbol of the ego, representing the belief in attack and sacrifice, where one’s gain depends on another’s loss. All aspects of the separated world are illusions, since what is of God can never be separate from Him, and therefore what seems separate from God cannot be real. This is expressed by the Course principle“ideas leave not their source”: we are an Idea (or Thought) in the Mind of God that has never left its Source.

Right-mindedness

God’s Answer to the separation is the Holy Spirit, and His plan to undo the ego is called the Atonement. A Course in Miracles employs many terms that reflect the Holy Spirit’s plan, and each is a virtual synonym for the other. They include: miracleforgivenesssalvationhealingreal worldtrue perceptionvisionface of Christreason, justiceholy instantholy relationshipfunctionhappy dreamSecond ComingWord of GodLast (Final) Judgmentresurrection, redemption, correction, awakening, and undoing.

These terms, belonging to the separated world of perception, refer to the process (the miracle) that corrects our misperceptions, shifting from hearing the ego’s voice of sin, guilt, and fear, to the Holy Spirit’s Voice of forgiveness. In this way, special or unholy relationships become holy. Without these relationships we would have no way of being freed from the guilt the ego has taught us to bury through denial, and retain through projection. The Holy Spirit turns the tables on the ego by changing its purpose for projection into an opportunity to see this denied guilt in another, thereby bringing it back within which allows us finally to change our minds about it.

While the practice of forgiveness, or undoing guilt, is usually experienced as complex and long term, it can be understood essentially as a three-step process (see, e.g., T-5.VII.6; W-pI.23.5; W-pI.70.1-4; W-pI.196.7-11). The first step reverses the projection as we realize that the guilt is not in another but in ourselves. Second, now that the guilt has been brought to our attention and we recognize that its source is in us, we undo this decision by choosing to see ourselves as guiltless Sons of God, rather than guilty sons of the ego. These two steps are our responsibility; the final one is the Holy Spirit’s, Who is able to take the guilt from us now that we have released it to Him, looking at it with His Love beside us, and thus without judgment and guilt. This looking without judgment, in gentle laughter, is the meaning of forgiveness. Using the workbook as our guide, we become trained over time to hear the Holy Spirit’s Voice, learning that all things are opportunities to learn forgiveness (W-pI.193).

Illustrative of this process-aspect of forgiveness are the references under periods of unsettling and bringing darkness (illusions) to the light (truth), as well as workbook lesson 284. These reflect the almost inevitable difficulty that results when one begins to take the Holy Spirit’s lessons seriously, and allows the deeply denied guilt to begin to surface in one’s consciousness.

When our guilt is finally undone, right-mindedness having corrected wrong-mindedness, the bridge to the real world is complete. The memory of God dawns within our minds, as all interferences to it have been removed and we see the face of Christ in all people. This world of illusion and separation ends as God takes the last step, reaching down and lifting us unto Himself. Restored to the One-mindedness of Christ, “we are home, where … [God] would have us be” (T-31.VIII.12:8).” (FACIM, 2013)

Cleanliness is Godliness

On this wonderful transition called The Journey of Love, a few practices are important to understand and respect.  By now if you have been reading my blogs you know that energy makes up everything and can be thought of as God.  Everything vibrates at a certain frequency which is inherent within its structure.  So what is cleanliness?  How can anything be dirty in God’s world?

First of all, this is not God’s world!  It is man-made; every blade of grass, every animal and every person is created by the ego of man, as described in A Course in Miracles (ACIM).  It is worth the effort to figure out what I am speaking of, but it is too complex to explain in a few paragraphs, ACIM is a yearlong course.  Just know that your “reality” is created by your ego mind and each person see’s their own version of the same thing. Earth is often considered dirt, and the state of being dirty is any substance, liquid, or semi-solid that is located where it is not wanted.  Being dirty changes the overall appearance of the object it (solid, liquid, or vapor) rides on.

Dirty on a basic level is a decrease in energetic frequency which then attracts particulate matter similar to its energy.  This usually occurs over time (entropy), unless energy is being expended to clean or increase the areas’ energy vibrations.  If you ask three people if something is dirty, you will get three different answers, because the state of being dirty is subjective.  Dirty is simply a lower vibration.

Take your body for instance, washing it removes any foreign materials and thus raises the bodies overall vibration to a more natural state.  The soil can come from the environment or from within (thoughts taking form – sweat, mucus, tears just to name a few).  So to wash anything raises its vibrational signature to a more natural state or close to original state.  The original state is unattainable in this world because of the many energetic influences being exerted on all matter.  Once matter is changed, it cannot be changed back, only taken to a similar state.  Think of this at the molecular level, so while it may appear good as new, it has been changed.

Looking at dirty from the spiritual point of view, it is impure, soiled, tainted, unclean, and viewed as sinful.  Thus anything in this world could be considered impure or sinful.  Not that purity does not exist, for it certainly does, however it is not of this world.  Ever since Eve ate the apple and Adam & Eve where thrown out of the Garden of Eden, this world has been impure or sinful.  Of course this is a perspective which was taught long ago by religious leaders to explain the world they saw around them.

Energetically speaking the 3d dimension, where we all live, is a dense world made up of matter at a low vibrational frequency.  As energy vibration increases, cleanliness becomes a natural state.  If the body can be vibrated at sufficient frequencies it too will move to attain a state that cannot be dirty or sick.

Metaphorically speaking cleaning is a kin to forgiveness, because forgiveness is how one raise’s above sin.  Keeping your body and your environment clean is thus a conscious act of forgiveness!

Cleaning is also a way to increase the vibration of anything, your body, house, yard, etc.  Living in an energetically vibrant environment is crucial to higher living.  But don’t take my word for it, just notice the next time you are in a “dirty” place and see how the space feels.  Energized?  Depressed?  The same goes for a place that is immaculately clean, or someplace brand new/never used.

The secret to moving to higher states of existence comes in creating an energized space by keeping it clean.  As you grow, you will find yourself in places that are ever more energetic, clean, and beautiful.

No Order of Difficulty in Miracles

One of the most powerful if not the most powerful concept you can understand is that there is “no order of difficulty in miracles”.  This concept comes from a book called “A Course in Miracles” which I highly recommend picking up.  Do not be in a hurry, because it will take you over a year to read this book.  But then what’s the rush, you have the rest of your life; let’s just hope that lasts longer than the year!

The main premise of this world we live in comes down to one thing, separation.  Everywhere we look we see separate people, things and places.  This is not a new concept that I am introducing here, I talk about it often because it is so important to the workings of life.  God is all there is and by now I suspect that you are pretty comfortable with that idea, but are you comfortable with that reality?  I would think not since you and I are still here!

ACIM calls the world illusory and what you think you are seeing is only a product of your thoughts.  Notice I did not say imagination, because this world has rules and structure so that it seems very “real”.  To quote a favorite character of mine Morpheus from the movie The Matrix, “What is real”?  You will remember that he asks further, “Is it something to can touch, taste, see or feel?  If so those can be broken down to electrical signals running through out your body.”  Real suddenly becomes a lot more ephemeral!  ACIM teaches that God is the only “real” there is and we are already there, cradled safely in “all that is”.

Life takes on a new meaning when we understand that there is “no order of difficulty in miracles”.  So what is the purpose of miracles anyway?  ACIM teaches us that the false belief that we are separate from God is corrected by miracles.  So this means that miracles are simply here to “correct our misperceptions”.  You can think of this as a shift in consciousness.  Miracles join us with Christ mindedness or Buddha consciousness or simply with GOD.  Unity is indeed the goal of all Miracles!

With this understanding now we can see that miracles join or unify, and it makes no difference whether we think something is hard or easy, big or small.  Moses parting the Red Sea so that Hebrews could re-join their brethren is a wonderful example of miracles having no order of difficulty.

Looking at miracles this way means that a simple smile can be a miracle when it joins two people.  If you are not experiencing miracles everyday then you are out of synch and need to take another look.  All it takes is a shift in consciousness and that can happen in a instant!  😉  Sequoia Elisabeth

Awareness of the Journey

What transition are you in right now?  How is it going?  My ministry is focused on raising the awareness of each person I meet or that visits my website.  For those who are aware of the journey life is so much simpler, richer and more meaningful.  I love to sit and think about how much I adore the people in my life and how much I love a world where Love is the rule and not the exception.  The older I become the deeper this realization becomes.  Life is not about what you see is what you get, but rather what you believe is what you see!  We all want our illusion to match our dream and unfortunately things do not work that way in this world.  It is often difficult to discover the Truth, but rest assured it does exist.  In fact it is the only thing that does exist!  All that we see is an illusion.  I often feel like I live in a house of mirrors with this illusion being reflected in so many different ways.  Part of the journey of change we are all on is to let go of the illusions and get to the Truth.  Our simple awareness that this is our journey and our acceptance of it will open many doors for us.  ACIM (A course in miracles) teaches that the ego is the master of illusions and when we feel like we are distant or something is happening to create separation in our lives then that is the ego at work.  All we need do is to acknowledge that and laugh to ourselves with a calm reserve.  “Resistance is Futile”
