We are One

Sequoia’s Philosophy for Living

This is the basis I used to write my eBook, Livin’ Large. It was written way back in 2007, before my transition, the year I was ordained. The free eBook is available on this website.

What you focus on grows

Or in science language – an object in motion tends to stay in motion. The more you move in a certain direction the harder it is to change that direction or the more energy it takes to change. Remember thoughts are things!

Mind your own business

Your business is your life and affairs, stay positive about this and all will improve. When you help another, you help yourself, because we are all one. One Life, One Mind, One Love

Like attracts Like

Life is a mirror of your thoughts about who you believe you are. It is a reflection of your beliefs, so you will attract like you think. Positive feelings attract positive experiences.

Everything happens for a reason

The reason is you held this thought for whatever purpose. Often, we are not even aware of our thoughts. Awareness is the door to growth and enlightenment. Know that we are protected in ways we cannot even imagine and a foundational belief in Goodness is apparent wherever we look.

I am Ready

Yes is the attitude that brings your desires. Often when presented with an opportunity we reflex respond with no – thinking this will protect us, but from what? Be patient, know that you are ready for anything that my come your way. YOU CREATED IT.

What you say is True

Why would you say something that is not true? More importantly your beliefs make it true! In order to say something, the thought must come to you, if it came to you it was attracted by your beliefs and actions, which makes it TRUE to you. This is a personal experience, so mind your own business and observe the Truth all around you. Hold your dreams close and focus on that which you desire not that which you don’t. If a thought comes to you and you disagree, kick it out! And be mindful of your actions.

Everything you say is a prayer

Going along with the above, when you say it, you are expressing your thoughts and putting focus on it, moving it closer to reality or fixing it there. Express your truest desires not your fears. Share your dreams, so that they may be true.

Heaven is a state of mind

Our thoughts create our world, so why not think of your life as heaven. What would heaven be like? How would the experience feel? How would it appear? Once you realize that you have a choice to see heaven or hell, it is easy to make that choice.

Peace is always present, though not always apparent

We live in a world that seems discordant and fearful sometimes, however everything exists all the time, it is just where we focus our attention. Have you ever been watching a movie and had a blissful time only to emerge from the theatre to realize something awful happened right next door? You know what I mean. I hear stories of how awful something is all the time and then I go, and it is wonderful. How can this be? What do you believe? What are you focused on?

Energy is neither created nor destroyed, it simply changes form.

Energy makes up the universe and everything within it. What this means is nothing is ever lost, and everything is. The experience of a waterfall is just that, an experience. Each of us experiences it differently and it is there until it is not, when it changes form to be whatever it becomes. The butterfly is often used for this analogy. This is also what is meant when it is said that we never do die. We simply change form. The body is energy and the deeper or smaller we go we realize that everything is energy! We give this energy a name – Love, God, Ether…. I am that I am.

Love is the Answer

See love everywhere you go, in everything you do, and in everything you say. If perhaps this doesn’t happen every time, forgive yourself and others and move on. What you focus on will grow!

Second Life Possibilities

This post comes from my eBook Sex and Sexuality.  I edited it out of the 2020 version because most of my friends now simply do not indulge in virtual reality.  I have updated and expanded on it and post it here for posterity.

Second Life Possibilities

If you could have a chance to start your life over, would you? What if you could live all your dreams to the fullest without limitation? There is a virtual chat reality that can allow you to experience much of what you are too afraid to experience in “real” life. It is called SecondLife.com(SL). When I found SL in 2008 I thought to myself, “I can’t handle one life, what would I do with two?” Curiosity got the better of me though, so I checked it out and I was hooked immediately. There are many reasons why I was so taken by SL though the thing which really got me is friends. On SL I had more friends than I did in first life (1L), which is either a sad note or a hopeful one depending on how you look at it. SL led to having more friends in 1L. Why? Because I learned not to fear my inner self, my transgender self. I surrounded myself with people who would accept me through non judgment. The internet has truly opened the door for so many possibilities and Linden Labs, the creator of SL, has taken those possibilities and run with them. For which I am very grateful.

Those possibilities include using SL for discovering your sexual side and expressing your identity by trying on different roles, avatars, and relationships. It also is good for finding your Spiritual self since in the spiritual realms we have no body. The way each person sees SL is different and I am sure it serves many purposes for many people, but I will share my point of view and you can make of it what you will.

Second Life is a 3D virtual world that the residents create.  Sort of like first life (1L).  Neither 1L nor SL is to be confused with “real” life.  Some call SL a game and we have all heard of the game of Life (not the board game).  As A Course in Miracles (ACIM) teaches us, ‘our life, what we see with our body’s eyes, is all illusion’.  Both 1L and SL are of our creation with a little help from Holy Spirit.

Look deep enough and you will find the real value in this virtual world of SecondLife. Why I initially got into SL is the power of imagination to create reality.  As I mentioned earlier we are constantly creating our reality (in our dreams, both consciously and unconsciously). In SL we can let go of many of first life’s limitations.  SL allows you to see reality as you choose it, sort of like practice.  You create the avatar of your choice, which includes choosing your clothing, skin color, race, size, shape, hair, gender, everything. It is possible to be objects, animals, or invisible. Ever wonder what it is like to be a dog? How about the Kool-Aid man? It is great fun and you can experience things beyond the 1L world. Create your life just the way you desire and share this with others; get to know yourself.

Basil holding Sequoia

The fun part for me is visiting other people’s creations to see their vision and dreams.  Many people get caught up in the financial aspects of life and SL is no different. The great thing about SL is there are many “freebies” therefore you can live without money! Of course having money makes things easier as it does in 1L. SL allows you to be rich very easily, since the exchange rate is something like 270 Lindens to $1. Money is there for the making. The money is digital which is the same for SL as in 1L. Money is energy! Though for me life’s not about money but about relationships!

Brainstorm and Sequoia dancing

Some of the things that work best in SL are music, both live and recorded, dancing (any style you can imagine), relationships (both voice chat and typed), sexual encounters (as real as your imagination), education, lectures, meetings, and even movies. A comment on SL sex, you are meeting actual people and interacting with them in ways you probably would not do in first life, so just be careful and courteous. Most behavior in SL is mature, but like 1L, sometimes it gets out of hand. I remember being attacked by penises one time when I was in a sand box (used for programming and building). And another time a guy tried to rape me (more like a dog trying to hump your leg). It was scary and then I remembered we have teleportation, so I just got outta there. It happened on the landing deck while my friend and I were sky diving. Unlike 1L nothing can harm you there, just remember, it is like practice. And by practice I mean learning to forgive, our greatest skill in 1L. Use SL as a way of extending the possibilities in your life and experiencing things you have been curious about but could not do in 1L. For me I have experienced things I never thought possible. Life really is about getting to know yourself better and this is done through relationships as I have pointed out throughout this text.

In SL you can have relationships you never thought possible and experience feelings you did not know you even had! Another word of caution here, it may appear that your 1L and SL are separate but I can assure you that they are not. Everything is connected in some way which can be both good and bad. If you do something in SL to hurt another person emotionally then the ramifications are both in 1L and SL. It works the other way too, if you meet someone special and you get to know this person well, romance in SL will affect your 1L. Several of my single friends have found life partners on SL and are now very happily living together in 1L. The other side of the coin is marriages have been broken up when new relationships started in SL that extended into 1L. In SL we call it a partnership and in 1L we call it marriage, but it is the same thing really. You can be partnered in SL to one person and married to someone else in 1L, or it can be the same person or no one. I have several friends who can attest to this, and in fact I have personal experience. Let me share my experience here now, 12 yrs later. I got so into SL that I brought my 1L wife into SL. My avatar is female, pictured above with my boyfriend Basil. Our relationships were open and we had many of the same friends. I loved hanging out with this guy from Europe and unknown to me, so did my wife. The picture below to the left is her and him together. In 1L I traveled a lot and our 1L relationship was failing, so I cannot blame her for falling for this guy, because I really liked him too. Two years later I discovered she was serious about him and we ended up getting divorced and they married. By this time I had transitioned in 1L and attended their wedding as a bridesmaid! Fortunately, I am conscious enough to see that I created the situation that transpired and I have no regrets. In case you don’t know yet, I am transgender and began the SL experience as a man, transitioned in 1L and now live as a woman. My avatar in SL has almost always been female (hey it is fun to experiment with different avatars) and the experiences I had there greatly enhanced my transition. The intentions you go in with will determine your experience, so try to keep an open mind and have fun!

Brainstorm and Nita

For those who are interested in exploring sex in a safe environment, SL is perfect. Use SL like training wheels and while having fun, remember love is the way (I mean agape love, because all relationships are with God and sex is a way of expressing our love for God). I say safe because sexually transmitted diseases (STD’s) are not possible and neither is pregnancy, unless you choose that.

It is possible to have babies in SL which is a path you choose and create as you go. I had a friend who had a dragon avatar who had a baby dragon with her 1L partner who also had a dragon avatar, because she was unable to have children in 1L. If you choose to take this path then please take it seriously, even though this is virtual world the energy is very real. (a side note, having babies is always a choice whether in SL or 1L, though in 1L it is often a choice made unconsciously, meaning this lifetime has a path laid out and we either embrace it or we resist and suffer)

The bonds you build in SL are strong and if you are not careful it is easy to have your feelings hurt. Be honest with everyone you meet, however if you elect not to share your life with others then do not be upset if they do not take you seriously. I will also ask that you stay as aware as possible to the feelings of others as well as your own. The experience in SL is rich and vibrant, however just like in 1L you get back what you put into it!

A Multi-Dimensional Being

The way you make love is the way God will be with you ~ Rumi

Have you considered how you connect with the rest of the world?  And I am not just speaking physically but multi-level… think chakras and the energy each manifests.   This is what is meant by a multi-dimensional being. This is who you are and perhaps a source of dysphoria or simply a feeling of not belonging.  Why do you feel this way, you know the feeling of being separate from everything.  Others don’t understand you and at times you don’t understand them either.  Is this feeling necessary to live in the world of physical matter?  Perhaps, however we are looking at the big picture today and your task is to relate this information to your own life and perspectives.

For more on the chakras and what I speak of there being different levels of being please read this article which is quite good at explaining each level of chakra, and remember each level has different dimensions(bodies) such as physical, emotional, mental, astral, etc. for more on this I found this article on human nature.

I realize this topic can be a bit overwhelming it has taken me many years to grasp only a fraction of this knowledge.  Take one step at a time and with only a little effort the puzzle pieces fall into place.  I can’t tell you how beautiful the finished product is because you must see that for yourself, and this could quite possibly be the reason you are here reading this now.

Moving on to another message which I find intriguing and again quite possibly the reason I am here writing this blog.  I wish to more fully understand and embrace my inner being.  This quote sums it up…

“When we touch the place in our lives where sexuality and spirituality come together, we touch our wholeness and the fullness of our power and at the same time our connection with a power larger than ourselves.”
― Judith Plaskow, Standing Again at Sinai: Judaism from a Feminist Perspective

Focusing more directly on just one aspect of the greater system, the second chakra in orchestra with the others seems to be extremely important to living a whole life.

“If sexuality is one dimension of our ability to live passionately in the world then in cutting off our sexual feelings we diminish our overall power to feel, know, and value deeply.”
― Judith Plaskow, Standing Again at Sinai: Judaism from a Feminist Perspective

How does this fit into the gender journey?  And, how does our relationship to other-self determine the quality of life we live?

The answer lies within each person uniquely.  Speaking from the transgender perspective I know I am a multi-dimensional being as I sense this acutely.  Even the label human feels odd to me and as I work down the path, male, caucasian, american, heterosexual, woman, each identity is ephemeral in reality.  Must I embrace my sexuality to define my being?  Can I be without orientation?  Is this desirable?  The quote above would suggest embracing ones sexuality is the key to a full expression of self.  From experience I have to agree.

Ownership Revisited Part I

This is a three part series which I am reposting as a reminder to myself and my readers.  Maybe you missed it last time.  I welcome you to scan back through the blogs and explore.  The main topic of this blog is Transition, and the accompanying topics are Spirituality, Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation.

Ownership is purely a man made concept that has existed for thousands of years in some form or another.  The question I ask here is simply this, “How does ownership serve you”?  Is it in the Highest and Best Good of the Human Race & Earth?

Ownership as defined by the Encyclopedia Britannica is, “the legal relation between a person (individual, group, corporation, or government) and an object. The object may be corporeal, such as furniture, or completely the creature of law, such as a patent, copyright, or annuity; it may be movable, such as an animal, or immovable, such as land. Because the objects of property and the protected relations are different in every culture and vary according to law, custom and economic system and the relative social status of those who enjoy its privileges, it is difficult to find a least common denominator of “ownership.” Ownership of property probably means at a minimum that one’s government or society will help to exclude others from the use or enjoyment of one’s possession without one’s consent, which may be withheld except at a price.”

What do you own?  Think carefully here.  Are you sure?  Is it because you paid for it?  Or is it simply that you claimed possession?  Can you do with it as you please?  Does it bring you joy?  Is it time to re-assess your viewpoint on ownership?

Is your partner, wife, husband, boyfriend, girlfriend, child, pet an object?  Of course not, so please do not treat them as one.  Human relationships sometimes slip into ownership situations and this is regrettable and unhealthy.  I simply mention this as a reminder of what you already know – you cannot be owned, and neither can anyone else – at least not without their permission.  If someone is a slave they have chosen this experience for the advancement of their soul, but this diverts from our topic today.  Suffice it to say there are no victims, only volunteers.

Copyright is a legal construction so the person with this legal right can claim profit.  I ask for you to consider this carefully.  Who really owns the words written here or the electricity that brings them to you?  The reason copyright law exists is so money can be claimed; however it is not always the person who made the copyrighted material who profits from it.  Copyright law is simply a construct under which some get wealthy and others do not.  It is a limitation imposed by the powers at be.  I choose not to copyright my writing, because these words do not come from me but from Holy Spirit.  Anyone who wishes can wade in the river of knowledge!  This goes for any creation, a building, a computer, a book, a recipe, you name it – the idea came from Holy Spirit!  The resources came from Gaia and your part in the process is the hands to mold it.  Just because you played a part of a Divine process does not mean you own the creation!  If I make the muffler for a car, do I own the car?  If I make a book cover do I own the book?  Not hardly.

What is “real” about real estate?  What are you paying for?  Could it be that you are paying for the right to use the property as long as you abide by certain rules and pay the proper taxes and fees?  Why are you giving your power to some official or banker?  What will happen if you claim your inner power and God given right to live as you see fit?  Is what you are thinking in the Best Interest of Everyone involved?

The blog will continue tomorrow so we will meet again soon and complete our story of “ownership”.

Equality

Equality is a fairly simple concept and I would like to shed some new light on this topic.  It can apply to just about any subject once it is understood, including marriage, race, color, age, creed, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, ancestry, national origin/ethnicity or handicap/disability.

What is really at issue here?  Do all humans have equal rights?  Do we really want every human to have equal rights?  How does one decide who has rights and who does not?  At what age does a human have rights?  Do they ever end and did they ever begin?

These are tricky questions and each person will have their own point of view to offer, so as a society what is right, if that is possible?  As you may or may not know nothing is right or wrong lest you make it so.

This blog takes the Spiritual perspective and so I will avoid the dualistic political debates here and point out that Truth lies in Unity Consciousness.  Meaning there is no them, other, opposing view.  Only what you perceive.  New Thought Spirituality, ACIM, the Vedas and others teach that God is all there is, so all is God.  This means there cannot be a duality or the duality is contained within the One.

Using the Yin-Yang symbol we can say God is that which is both inside & outside the circle.  The portion inside is Man or the duality of good/bad, male/female, etc.  The other observation you may have made here is that all is balanced in this symbol and indeed this is the ideal.  However, all is fluid in reality and thus it is constantly shifting, shaping, and forming.

Equality is desirable because this is our concept of Peace, however I will point out that all is balanced right now because all is of the ONE.  The shape, form, and expression is constantly changing; however all elements are present, so all is balanced.  This is the power of Oneness and why this concept has been taught on some level since time began.  We are all ONE, meaning equality is inherint or inalienable! How society chooses to express this equality is in the details and we all know not to sweat the details.

Let’s Review

Coping tools for Transition are the main purpose of this blog so let’s do a review here.  Transition is all about change and can include anything from moving to a new city, starting a new job or embracing a change in physical gender.  There are no two transitions quite the same, so please apply these techniques to your situation.

I have talked about many things so far, but the most important tools I have discussed are the 6 senses of the mind which began Feb. 2, 2010.  If you have not read these I would recommend you go to those blogs and give them a look.  The mind is a powerful thing to waste!

The other tools I discuss are awareness, compassion, community, and Universal Laws.  The topics I discuss include Death, 2012, time, visioning, gratitude, unity, oneness, Love, morality, relationships, the transsexual transition, post-op regret/grief, jobs, societal perception, introspection, and journeys.

Looking over this list there are a few subjects I have not covered well and will be including in the days to come.  I will be talking about community, support groups, suicide, and anything that my readers suggest.  Having some feedback on subjects that you are interested in is most helpful, so please write to me and let me know.  If you found this blog without going to my website then please pop over and give it a look. Will Power

Only two more tools of the mind to consider, so let us move on to the will.  Yes!  Our will is an important piece of the puzzle!  As I mention in my book “Livin’ Large – a Journey of Love” whatever you say is true – for you.  We are always right at least in our own mind, so the next time you hear otherwise, simply know that both of you can be right at the same time, in fact everyone on earth can be right at the same time!  Infinite possibility makes that true, since all possibilities are occurring at all times and as we will it so we experience it!

So how do we use this mind tool of will to our benefit?  First we must be aware of the choices available and the power we have to will these choices.  Will is something that you set in motion and allow to work, it is not something that you force.  When you say “I will be there” what you are doing is creating a path for that to manifest and as long as you allow things to fall into place your words are true.  This allowing requires that you be aware, listen and take action.  There is an implied knowing involved that carries the power of our words forth and within our minds as we speak the words a path is already being worked out in the milli-second the thought comes to us.  When we become aware of this process it is easy to marvel in the beauty of the whole process!  The more we practice this and stay aware, the deeper our understanding goes and the more exciting the results.

When we say “yes” to something we are using the power of our wills to agree and make manifest our desires.  Yes, I am happy today!  This is a simple act of will power.  😉 Sequoia Elisabeth
